Capacity building on Industry 4.0 for Policymakers from Viet Nam

The seminar, gathering over 20 high-level policymakers across Ministries and Departments engaged in implementing Viet Nam's industrial policy, gave an overview of current policy options vis-à-vis Industry 4.0. It featured case studies from a range of countries, globally, zooming in on current initiatives in South Korea and South Africa, in particular.

A panel discussion with the Vice President of Siemens, Viet Nam and the Country Managing Director from ABB on the private sector's perspective rounded up the event.

On Wednesday, 6 June, a workshop for mid-level Officials started elaborating further on the topic and adding exercises to initiate a policy dialogue involving all relevant stakeholders. It finishes on Friday, 8 June.

The two events are part of a project "Support to the Government of Viet Nam in the formulation of Sub-sector Industrial Strategy and of the related Implementation Policy through Institutional Capacity Building", funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. The project aims at enhancing the quality of Viet Nam's industrial development strategy and policy through building institutional capacity, compiling industrial reports for the public and the private sector, and proposing concrete strategies and policies to enhance Viet Nam's industrial competitiveness.

At the opening, Mr. Tran Quang Ha, Deputy Director General of the Industry Agency, MOIT, thanked UNIDO for its timely intervention during a time where Viet Nam is about to defining its policy response to the new trends and developments posed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Mr. Jaehwan Jung, Project Manager at UNIDO, looked ahead at future cooperation with the Vietnamese Government to support the country on its industrialization trajectory.
