Distinguished Guests, Good afternoon.
Thank you for gathering here today for this information session on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism for non-state actors. The UPR mechanism is a vital process within the realm of human rights, providing an avenue for countries to be reviewed by their peers and to assess their progress in promoting and protecting human rights.
Today, our objective is threefold:
First, to increase awareness and knowledge about the UPR mechanism and the role of non-state actors during the process,
Second, to amplify the participation and engagement of non-state actors in the UPR process, and
Third, to equip non-state actors with the necessary skills to effectively contribute to the UPR stakeholders' submissions.
As the UN in Viet Nam, we have a collective responsibility to enhance understanding about the UPR mechanism and the valuable role non-state actors play within it. Your contributions are integral to a comprehensive and inclusive review. This information session will provide insights into key aspects such as drafting high-quality submissions, conducting effective research, and engaging with relevant stakeholders. An important focus of drafting the report is in providing evidence-based information, supported by credible sources. By doing so, we strengthen the credibility and impact of our collective advocacy efforts.
The UPR process is not merely a review mechanism. It presents an opportunity to drive positive change and promote human rights at the national level. By actively engaging in the drafting of the report, you are contributing to a broader dialogue and shaping the future of human rights.
Our hope is that as many diverse voices are heard and considered in this process.
Our efforts today aim to contribute enhancing implementation of human rights standards and fostering meaningful progress in fulfilling human rights for all.
I take this opportunity to express my sincerest gratitude to UNDP and VUFO for their support in organizing this important and timely information session, and for creating a safe space for collaboration.
Thank you! Xin cảm ơn!
