- Ha Noi, 25 March 2016 – Following the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) over the last five years, the UNESCO Ha Noi Office and the Viet Nam National Commission for UNESCO have released a report detailing the results and achievements from 2010 to 2016.
The Memorandum of Understanding between the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the 2010 to 2016 period has been the central programming document for UNESCO in Viet Nam, guiding the joint collaboration and work between UNESCO, the Government and other counterparts.
The MOU was signed in Ha Noi in October 2010 by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the Viet Nam National Commission for UNESCO and UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova during her visit to the country. The programming document outlines the cooperation between Viet Nam and UNESCO within the Organization’s areas of action: Education; Natural Sciences; Social and Human Sciences; Culture; and Communication and Information.
In December 2015, a new Memorandum of Understanding for the 2016 to 2021 period was signed in Paris, France by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Mr. Ha Kim Ngoc, who was accompanied by a Vietnamese delegation including Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. The Memorandum of Understanding establishes a new framework for continued cooperation between the Government and UNESCO towards inclusive and sustainable development in Viet Nam.
