Representative of UNESCO to Viet Nam awarded the highest honour by the Ministry of Education and Training

- Ha Noi, 28 August 2015 – Ms. Katherine Muller-Marin, Representative of UNESCO to Viet Nam, joined Vice Minister of Education and Training H.E. Nguyen Vinh Hien and directors of education departments and institutes at a ceremony to receive the medal "For the Cause of Education" from the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) today.
Directors and representatives from the Department of Science, Technology and Environment, the Continuing Education Department, the Planning and Finance Department, the Viet Nam Institute for Educational Sciences, the National Institute for Education Management and the Viet Nam National Commission for UNESCO represented sector partners in conveying their appreciation for UNESCO's work in Viet Nam under Ms. Muller-Marin's direction and leadership.
In his opening remarks, Vice Minister Nguyen Vinh Hien expressed that the medal, the highest honour awarded by the Ministry of Education and Training, was bestowed upon Ms. Muller-Marin in recognition of her "great contributions to education in Viet Nam" and, more specifically, for her "initiative in bringing international experiences and educational innovation and reform to Viet Nam in her support of the fundamental and comprehensive renovation of the education system." The Vice Minister went on to recognize the important contributions made to the Education Sector by UNESCO as part of the One UN in Viet Nam.
Ms. Muller-Marin emphasized that the purpose of the ceremony was not to celebrate the achievements of one individual or organization, but to recognize the great impact that UNESCO and the Ministry of Education and Training's joint work has on the lives of the people of Viet Nam.
During the ceremony, authorities from the International Cooperation Department of MOET provided an overview of Ms. Muller-Marin's work and accomplishments in the Education Sector since her arrival in 2009, while an official from the Department of Emulation and Awards announced the official decision of Minister of Education and Training H.E. Mr. Pham Vu Luan to award the medal.
