Viet Nam Women Entrepreneurs Forum 2020 “Ring the Bell – For a Prosperous and Sustainable Economy”

  • Hanoi, October 22nd, 2020 - On the occasion of the Vietnam Entrepreneurs' Day October 13th and the Vietnam Women's Day October 20th, Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council (VWEC) under the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the European Union Delegation (EUD) to Viet Nam host the Viet Nam Women Entrepreneurs Forum 2020 “Ring the Bell – For a Prosperous and Sustainable Economy”. This event highlights the joint efforts of all parties to promote the roles of private sector, of the senior business leaders pioneering in making prosperous businesses, towards a prosperous and sustainable economy well-grounded by gender equality.

Attending the Forum are representatives of Embassies, international organizations, VCCI leaders and 150 delegates from various Associations/Unions/Clubs of Entrepreneurs, enterprises and exemplary women entrepreneurs nationwide.

Discussions and sharing by speakers from VWEC, UN Women, Standard Chartered Bank, Garment 10 Corporation Joint Stock Company and Hien Le Group regarding good practices have reasserted that gender equality is the firm foundation of prosperous and sustainable development of businesses in particular and the economy in general.

In her introductory remarks delivered at the Forum, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Minh, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women Entrepreneurs Council (VWEC) emphasized that: “The economy in general and businesses in particular will not be able to prosper and develop in a sustainable manner without a vigorous foundation of gender equality, or women’s proactive, responsible and creative engagement.”

Ms. Elisa Fernandez Saenz, Head of UN Women Office in Viet Nam shared: “Women account for half of the population. An economy that underutilize women’s talents are missing out half of the available human resources. Making use of the full potential of women’s economic participation is not only social and corporate responsibilities but also smart economics.”

“Ring the Bell – For a Prosperous and Sustainable Economy” is an initiative of VCCI, VWEC, UN WOMEN and the European Union Delegation to Viet Nam with a view to calling for the business community to join hands and promoting the private sector in exercising gender equality – the significant foundation for the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as well as the guarantee for sustainable and prosperous growth and of businesses and the economy.

Mr. Jesús Laviña, Counsellor - Deputy Head of Cooperation Section, the European Union Delegation to Viet Nam said: “I am also pleased to attend this Forum – first and foremost to send a strong signal that the EU commit to help partner countries in promoting gender equality and, hopefully, in turning gender equality into greater prosperity for Vietnam”.
