• Ha Noi, 3 February 2018 – To improve, refine, and finalize the draft national framework of environmental education for sustainable development, the Department of Science, Technology and Environment (DSTE) of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) together with the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences (VNIES) and UNESCO conducted an Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) consultation meeting in the framework of UNESCO project on strengthening ESD policy in Viet Nam, with financial support from the Government of Japan.

• Phu Tho - Viet Nam, 3 February 2018 - On behalf of UNESCO's Director General, the Head of Ha Noi Office, Michael Croft delivered the inscription certificate for Xoan singing as an element of the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, at Lai Len Shrine, Viet Tri city, Phu Tho Province.

• Ha Noi, 01 Febuary 2018 - Within series event of Exhibition ‘Hanoi Architects with Hanoi’, the exhibition and awarding ceremony for ‘Public space design contest for an exciting Hanoi’ will be organized from 7pm, 02 February 2018 to 12 pm, 03 February 2018 at Phung Hung street (from Le Van Linh intersection to Hang Cot street) by UN-Habitat, in association with Ha Noi Architect Association and Center of Live and Learn for Environment and Community.

• Ha Noi, 31 January 2018 - Viet Nam is especially vulnerable to effects of changing weather patterns, which have recently led to an increase in the severity and number of typhoons and storms impacting the country. 2017 was marked by extensive national efforts to respond to the devastating impacts of Typhoon Damrey, which, together with 15 additional storms, led to economic losses estimated at more than VND 51.6 trillion (about USD 2.3 billion). Furthermore, Damrey and other storms caused severe human suffering, with over 375 people dead or missing, and over 4 million affected. Going forward, it is expected that Viet Nam will continue to face an increase in severe weather patterns which negatively impact of the well-being of its people and the development of the country.

Ha Noi, 31 January 2018 - Viet Nam officially launched the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement today in an event that also kicked off the implementation of the Prime Minister's Directive on strengthening multi-sectoral collaboration for nutrition in the country's new context. The event marked an important milestone for Viet Nam in its efforts to improve health and nutrition for the country's citizens as well as in the fulfilment of its international commitments in these areas. Participants to the event included Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Assistant UN Secretary General and Coordinator of the Scale-up Nutrition Movement Gerda Verburg, representatives from line ministries, government agencies and international organizations.

• Ha Noi, 30 January 2018 - UNESCO and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism co-organized today a technical workshop to review cultural statistics in Viet Nam. The situation analysis presented in the workshop was conducted in late 2017 as part of a Korea funded project implemented by UNESCO to work closely with the Vietnamese government in implementing its newly issued National Strategy for the Development of Cultural Industries to 2020, with vision to 2030.

• Ha Noi, 24 January 2018 - H.E. Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and H.E. Mr. Testu Funayama, President of Mitsubishi Corporation in Viet Nam paid a courtesy visit today to the UNESCO Ha Noi Office within the Green One UN House. On this occasion, Mitsubishi Corporation in Viet Nam and UNESCO also announced a small-scale project supporting the remodeling and strengthening of local cultural house in Tam Thanh coastal village, Tam Ky district, Quang Nam Province.

• Ha Noi, 23 January 2018 – The total number of out-of-school children from 5-14 years of age has been reduced significantly and the greatest reduction was observed among five-year-old pre-primary school children, according to the "Out-of-school Children: Viet Nam Country Study 2016" released today by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and UNICEF.
