Ha Noi, 24 August 2017 – Following the official signing ceremony led by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and the Minister of Science of Technology of Viet Nam, H.E. Chu Ngoc Anh, the International Centre of Research and Postgraduate Training in Mathematics and the International Centre of Physics are now recognized as Category 2 Centres under the auspices of UNESCO. Their inauguration is a milestone in the strengthening of research and innovation capacities among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region and promotion of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in Viet Nam.
Ha Noi 23 Aug 2017 - UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova will undertake an official visit to the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam from 24 to 27 August 2017 to discuss ongoing bilateral cooperation between UNESCO and Viet Nam and to officially recognize the International Centres of Research and Postgraduate Training on Mathematics and Physics as Category 2 centres under the auspices of UNESCO.
Ha Noi, 9-10 August 2017 – Over 60 teachers from lower secondary schools and teacher training colleges participated in a two-day training of trainers workshop on gender and gender-responsive school practices. Organized by UNESCO and the Department of Teachers and Education Administrators of the Ministry of Education and Training, the workshop is among the follow-up activities to the e-learning course on gender-responsive teaching methods that was recently piloted among 170 teachers and school managers from 30 selected secondary schools in Ha Noi, Hue and Ho Chi Minh City.

Ha Giang, 8 August 2017 – Ha Giang City launched its first Community Learning Centre (CLC), providing experimental education and mental health care in support of comprehensive child development, and training of students and community members. With a focus on the provision of educational as well as mental healthcare services, the CLC is highly anticipated to become successful in the mountainous city of Ha Giang and to serve as a model for the development of CLCs in other cities of Viet Nam.
Ha Noi, 1 August 2017 – The Department of Teachers and Education Administrator (DTEA), Ministry of Education and Training, presented preliminary analysis and recommendations concluded from a survey on the impact of teacher policies on primary and secondary education in disadvantaged areas. The survey completed in June 2017 provides a foundation for policy recommendations to better address the needs of teachers and learning environments in impoverished regions of Viet Nam.

HA NOI, 20 July 2017 - UNAIDS has released a new report showing that for the first time the scales have tipped: globally, more than half of all people living with HIV (53%) now have access to HIV treatment and AIDS-related deaths have almost halved in the past ten years. In 2016, 19.5 million people living with HIV had access to treatment, and AIDS-related deaths had fallen from 1.9 million in 2005 to 1 million in 2016. Provided that scale-up continues, this progress puts the world on track to reach the global Fast Track target on treatment by 2020.
