Ha Noi (Viet Nam), 17 May 2018 – The United Nations in Viet Nam stands with all members of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) communities and organizations around the world in commemorating the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia (IDAHOT) on 17 May, joining the "Alliance for Solidarity" – the 2018 IDAHOT theme.
Ho Chi Minh City, 15th May 2018 – UNICEF is partnering with private sector to launch a joint campaign “Sixty minutes working as a mom” to promote breastfeeding at the workplace. In collaboration with iCare Benefits, the campaign will be rolled out in Pou Yuen Viet Nam, the largest footwear factory in the country employing approximately 74,000 workers, 82 per cent of whom are women. Key messages address the common misunderstandings and barriers among factory workers relating to breastfeeding in the workplace. The campaign highlight how female workers can effectively use the 60-minute paid lactation breaks granted by the law for those raising children below 12 months of age.
HA NOI, 14 May 2018 – In the wake of allegations of sexual harassment against the popular singer Pham Anh Khoa, initially disseminated via social media, UNFPA Viet Nam is dissolving its partnership with Mr. Pham Anh Khoa who had served as an activist on the prevention of violence against women and girls in the country.
Quang Ngai, 5 May 2018 – The Viet Nam Disaster Management Authority (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) together with the UN Development Program and Quang Ngai People's Committee have handed over a further 40 storm-resilient houses to poor and vulnerable households in Quang Ngai province. Since the beginning of 2018, a total of 77 houses in five communes of the province have been built and handed over. More than 300 resilient homes will be built in the province this year.
HA NOI, 8 May 2018 – The study on the quality of Family Planning services in Viet Nam which was launched today in Ha Noi by the Ministry of Health (MOH), with technical and financial support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Viet Nam outlines that access to voluntary family planning is a basic human right. Ha Noi, 27 April, 2018 – Today, over 100 experts from governmental agencies, local organizations, Women's Union at all levels, international organizations, civil society organizations and research institutes gathered in Ha Noi to offer comments and recommendations on the "Voluntary National Review of Viet Nam on Sustainable Developmet Goals from a gender equality perspective" at a consultation workshop jointly held by Viet Nam Women's Union and UN Women.
Ha Noi – 26 April 2018 – Today, over 80 experts from governmental agencies, local organizations international organizations, and academia gathered in Ha Noi for the workshop "General Consultation on Gender Mainstreaming and Gender Impact Assessment of the Proposal to Revision Viet Nam's Labor Code", jointly held by Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA), UN Women and the Australian Embassy. The aim of the workshop was to identify gender discriminations present in the provisions of the current 2012 Labour Code, discuss effective strategies and interventions, and share policy recommendations for Viet Nam to revise the Labour Code and create an equal working environment for both men and women.
