Helping Viet Nam promote industrial energy efficiency
14 tháng 1 2016
- HA NOI, 14 January 2016 – Promoting energy efficient industrial boilers and operating practices in Viet Nam is the aim of a project presented today in Ha Noi by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The project is supported by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
Titled "Promotion of energy efficient industrial boiler adoption and operating practices in Viet Nam", it will be implemented from 2016 to 2019. Technical assistance from UNIDO will help finalize the regulations and guidelines on industrial boiler standardization systems as well as to build the national technical and financial capacity to promote the production, manufacturing and widespread adoption of energy efficient boilers in industrial enterprises.
Users in Viet Nam will eventually see more energy saving resulting in lesser environmental impact thanks to greenhouse gases emission reduction.
"This project comes at the right time for Viet Nam since the current boilers are not consistent in quality, not competitive compared to imported ones, and not energy efficient," said Mr. Patrick J. Gilabert, UNIDO Country Office Representative in Viet Nam.
Mr. Do Duc Quan, Deputy Director General of the General Directorate of Energy, Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that the project will assist in "raising energy efficiency and in conservation activities which are fundamental for reducing the pressure of energy supply and energy exploitation investment for Viet Nam, and in ensuring national energy security".
The project is in line with such government policies and programmes on energy efficiency and energy conservation as the Viet Nam National Energy Efficiency Programme and the Law on Energy Efficiency and Conservation.
The project addresses the whole boiler value chain from policy makers, manufacturers, to consultants, energy service companies, research institutions and academia and end users, and focuses primarily on small and medium boilers with a capacity of up to 20 tons per hour explained Mr. Sanjaya Shrestha, Project Manager from UNIDO Headquarters.
